Resilience

This is really at the crux of why I do what I do: building strong, capable + adaptable humans!

Resilience is the learned capacity to cope with adversity. From daily hassles to bigger life challenges, having the tools + ability to navigate + bounce back from stressful situations is essential for - not just surviving - but thriving in the modern world.

The ultimate goal of Joseph Pilates’ original work was to align + integrate body, mind + spirit. Himself a sickly child suffering asthma, rickets + rheumatic fever, Joseph Pilates built up his body (to the point where he began posing for anatomical charts!) + then developed his method of total body conditioning to help improve the lives of others. While interned on the Isle of Man during World War I, Pilates worked to rehabilitate fellow prisoners + boasted that his students emerged stronger than they were before their internment. Indeed, when the great influenza epidemic swept through Europe, none of Pilates’ students came down with it. Talk about resilience!

As a mind-body practice, Pilates can help you to develop your own somatic intelligence. We teach you to tune into your body, connect to your breath + work through the physical exercises with mindful attention, control + precision. We build, not only strong bodies, but confident individuals, better able to cope with life’s challenges.
